December 2005-Present: MLB.com beat writer for Toronto Blue Jays

I have handled the day-to-day coverage of the Toronto Blue Jays professional baseball club since the onset of the 2006 season. My responsibilities include writing game stories, features, previews and other news stories for MLB.com and BlueJays.com.

October-December 2005: Sports writer for Herald-Palladium (30K circ.)

I served as a sports writer for this daily newspaper and also spent time as a copy editor/paginator for the news department. The sports department covers more than 30 high schools and some college athletics. The Herald-Palladium is based in the St. Joseph and Benton Harbor area, but covers Southwest Michigan.

June-October 2005: MLB.com Intern in Toronto

I covered Major League Baseball (the Blue Jays and also some visiting clubs) at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. I was responsible for writing a 700-800 word notebook, a running game story, a 700-800 word game story and a next-day preview -- all during the course of a single game. I also wrote news stories, sidebars and features for the Web site.

June 20-23, 2005: Covered the Baltimore Orioles

October 2003-May 2005: Sports writer for Lansing State Journal (75K circ.)

I covered the low-Class-A Lansing Lugnuts Minor-League baseball club, Michigan State athletics, high school sports and city teams. I had experience writing on deadline and collected around 130 clips in my time there. I wrote running game stories, regular game stories, features and previews. I also had some experience with layout and copy editing.

March 2004: Went to Spring Training with Lansing State Journal

I went to the Chicago Cubs Spring Training in Mesa, Ariz. to write a couple of player features. The Cubs were the Major League affiliate of the low-Class-A Lansing Lugnuts and I gained experience in working with the players, coaches and front office staff of the Major League and Minor League teams.

June 2005-Present : Designed and maintain JordanBastian.com

This site is designed to serve as an active portfolio -- displaying my past and present work as a sports writer. I also include Weblogs for fans, family and friends.

October 2003-March 2005: Designed and ran OneGameBack.com

I managed a bi-weekly sports Web site that I maintained during college to have a place where I could write columns. I began the site to have a place to write before I started working for the newspaper. It also gave me valuable experience with web design. I updated the site every two weeks while taking a full schedule of classes and working for the State Journal.
